Does Your Child Need Braces? What You Need to Know

Not every single child needs to have braces. Some children are just born with perfect teeth. They lose their baby teeth and are fortunate enough that their adult teeth come in as straight as can be. For other kids, their teeth are much different than this. Their teeth may not come in this way at all. Not only is there a problem with their teeth, but there could also be a problem with their jaw as well. If you aren't sure if your child needs to have braces, read on for some more information.

Your Child Has Issues Chewing

If your child has issues with chewing or eating, it may be because of their teeth and jaw placement. If your child's back teeth don't touch, but they touch in the front of their mouth, it can make chewing and eating difficult. If your child's jaws hurt from chewing, it could be because of the alignment of their jaw. This is something that braces can help correct. It can help correct jaw problems such as if the top of bottom protrudes out further than the other, or if your jaw sits crooked (to one side and the opposite).

Your Child's Teeth Are Crooked

If your child has just one or two misaligned teeth that aren't too noticeable, it may be something they look past as well. If your child has multiple crooked teeth, or they are crowded, causing them to jut out, it can be embarrassing for your child. If this is bothersome to your child, you may want to consider getting braces for your child. Crooked teeth can make them feel very self-conscience and lead them to feel ashamed of their smile. Getting your child braces can help boost self-confidence throughout their entire lives and make themselves proud to smile.

If you aren't sure if your child needs braces, talk to their dentist about options for braces. Your child's dentist will keep an eye on your child's teeth and can see if there is too much crowding, long before all of their adult teeth come in. If you have just a few crooked teeth, with proper jaw placement and no crowding issues, you may still want braces for your child. If you want your child to have braces, even to correct minor issues, talk to your dentist about this option and have your dentist refer you to an orthodontist for a consultation. Give your child a bright and amazing smile they will want to smile about.
